Description
Once again, we at South Bay were fortunate enough to celebrate another successful patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) ligation repair on a 3.3 pound Yorkshire Terrier named "Schatze". For those who may not know, a PDA repair is a major cardiovascular surgery that repairs a congenital defect in the heart. During the surgery, a congenital shunt which allowed blood to flow improperly through the heart is closed or ligated to correct the problem. Dr. Ron Molitor did another amazing job with this intricate surgery with the help from his team Dr. Michelle Shoemaker (surgical assistant), Dr. Amanda Miles (surgical assistant), Connie Fraser (anesthetist), and Stephanie Harmon (anesthetist). As always, this could not have been possible without the help from the entire staff at South Bay. Their support and help prior to, throughout, and after the procedure was critical! "Schatze" is doing very well, even attempting to roughhouse with Dr. Shoemaker's Shih Tzu/Maltese mix "Zuri" the next morning after this major cardiovascular surgery!
